What Jesus Wants Us to Do The Son of Man Series Luke 10 8/30/2026 Spokespersons – (Luke 10:1–24) Jesus wants spokespersons, not spectators, who only pray for somebody else to do the job they are unwilling to do themselves. (Luke 10:7; 1 Corinthians 9:14; 1 Timothy 5:18) Our Lord’s commission to us emphasizes the proclamation of the message, not the performing of miracles (Matthew 28:19–20; Luke 24:46–49). Timeless Truth: To hear God’s spokesperson is to hear Him, and to despise His representatives is to despise Him. There is a threefold joy in verses 17-24: the joy of service (Luke 10:17–19), the joy of salvation (Luke 10:20), and the joy of sovereignty (Luke 10:21–24). (Ephesians 6:10-18) We need to remember that each victory is important to the Lord, no matter how insignificant it may seem in our eyes. Neighbors – (Luke 10:25–37) Religious people always like to argue. Making excuses What the Samaritan did helps us better understand what it means to “show mercy” (Luke 10:37). “To whom can I be a neighbor?” Worshipers – (Luke 10:38–42) Timeless Truth: Worship is at the heart of all that we are and all that we do in the Christian life. Truth from the Text: Jesus wants us to imitate Mary in our worship and Martha in our work. It is not an either/or situation; it is a matter of balance. If serving Jesus makes us difficult to live with, then something is terribly wrong with our service! The key is to have the right priorities: Jesus Christ first, then others, then ourselves. It is vitally important that we spend time with Jesus every single day, letting Him share His Word with us. Jesus wants us to be: spokespersons, neighbors, and worshipers; and the greatest of these is worshipers.
