Hard Teachings of Jesus The Son of Man Series Luke 18 10/25/2026 Pray Hard – Don’t Quit Luke 18:1-8 (1 Thessalonians 5:17) God’s children have open access into His presence and may come at any time to get the help they need (Ephesians 2:18; 3:12; Hebrews 4:14–16; 10:19–22). When Christians pray, we have an Advocate (1 John 2:1) and High Priest (Hebrews 2:17–18) who constantly represents us before the throne of God. Pray Honestly – Not Religiously Luke 18:9-14 Honest prayer is coming to God with an open heart and empty hands. Bring Your Children to Jesus – They Need Him Luke 18:15-17 Jesus wants us to be childlike but not childish Money Can’t Buy Happiness – Or Heaven Luke 18:18-30 – Matthew 19:16-30 He wasn’t honest with God or with himself. His understanding of who Jesus is was incorrect as was his understanding of what sin is. Nobody is saved by giving all his wealth to the poor. His understanding of salvation was completely wrong. God’s Plan Doesn’t Change – Even When we Don’t Understand It There are times in our life when things happen that we don’t understand. We can always trust God to do the right thing – even when we don’t understand it. In the Darkness – Call on Jesus Luke 18:35-43 There is only one thing worse than blindness, and that is not knowing that you are blind. Millions of people are blind to their darkness, blind to their sin, blind to their destiny, blind to their hopelessness, spiritually blind. (2 Corinthians 4:4) What are we meant to learn from this event? First, we must see our need. Second, once you see your need, you need to see who Jesus is. Third, like the blind man, you need to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” Like the Tax Collector, you need to cry out in faith, “God, have mercy on me!” And you need to believe that Jesus will hear your cry, and answer your call, and save you.
